“Half as old as the United States of America is a remarkable run.”
That memorable opening line from a recent Times of San Diego feature on the La Mesa Woman’s Club perfectly captures the significance of this moment for the organization as it begins celebrating its upcoming 125th anniversary.
Founded in 1902, the La Mesa Woman’s Club has spent generations supporting the community through volunteerism, scholarships, philanthropy, literacy initiatives, and nonprofit partnerships throughout East County and San Diego County.
The article highlights the Club’s remarkable history and lasting impact, including:
- Helping establish La Mesa’s first public library
- More than $500,000 donated to local causes
- More than $167,000 in scholarships awarded since 1975
- An estimated 135,000 volunteer hours contributed throughout the community
As the Club officially kicks off its year-long quasquicentennial celebration leading up to May 2027, members look forward to honoring the past while continuing to invest in the future through service, community engagement, and philanthropy.
We’re incredibly grateful to Times of San Diego and Karen Pearlman for helping share the story of the La Mesa Woman’s Club and the generations of women who helped shape its legacy.
