Our Story

More Than a Meeting — A Movement Begins

Founded on May 17, 1902, when eleven women gathered at Mary Ferguson’s home, the La Mesa Woman’s Club began with a shared vision of service, connection, and community.

As the Club grew, so did its impact. Through hundreds of volunteer hours and increasing membership, members supported civic efforts and community initiatives—including helping establish the city’s first public library.

The Club quickly became part of a broader network, joining local, state, and national federations that expanded opportunities for leadership and service.

As membership grew to 500+ women, the Club established gathering spaces that served both members and the community, including a longtime clubhouse that remained a central hub for decades.

While much has evolved since 1902, the mission remains the same: to bring women together in support of the community through service, connection, and shared purpose.

Today, the Club operates as a public charity, continuing its legacy of impact for generations to come.
