Four months into our 125th Anniversary Year of Celebration, there’s already so much to celebrate! Since kicking off the year in May, the La Mesa Woman’s Club has continued its long tradition of volunteerism, philanthropy and connection through monthly projects benefiting our local community. Here’s a look at what we’ve accomplished so far—and what’s still to come.

“A Legacy of Service continues during Year of Celebration.”

Founded in 1902, the LMWC sprung from the hearts and minds of eleven La Mesa women.  This service-driven organization continues to follow the principles its founders built the Club upon 125 years ago: volunteerism, philanthropy, and connection.

This past May, the LMWC kicked off its 125th Anniversary Year of giving by presenting $5,000 to the Friends of the La Mesa Library.

In June, the Club participated in the La Mesa Flag Day Parade, handing out flags and candy to attendees.

July was very special, honoring America’s 250th and her veterans by presenting a historical flag to the La Mesa Veterans Club. There, the Young Marines provided the color guard and Bruster’s Real Ice Cream of La Mesa helped sponsor an ice cream social for the festivities.

In August, the LMWC, along with generous community members, went Back to School by donating 125 filled backpacks to the students of Bancroft Elementary.

September brought community partners together with the LMWC to help the kids and families of Kempton Literacy Academy with donations to their school food pantry. In addition, the Club gave aid to food-insecure families by donating $1,750 to both Feeding San Diego and Feeding the Flock.

And this October will bring a special presentation to the Grossmont Hospital Foundation in honor of all those who ring the bell at the David & Donna Long Cancer Center.

The La Mesa Woman’s Club has great plans for the remainder of its Anniversary Year with monthly events leading up to the May 2027 Anniversary Celebration. This crowning event will honor the Club’s legacy…past, present, and future.  It will also recognize the community partners and sponsors whose support has been vital throughout the year and present the final charitable donations of the 125th Anniversary Year Celebration.
